2007: Summer Summary

Now that summer is well and truly over with the cool weather that came on last week, and the increasingly lovely autumn foliage, I thought I should put together a quick summary of what went on in the last few months. It was a pretty eventful summer with Grandma and Grandpa.

Sat, May 26: We joined the Hesed Fellowship on an all-day outing to Lake Del Valle in Livermore. It was a fun day of eating, chatting, kayaking, and relaxation.

Tue, May 29: We got our roof changed by Yorkshire Roofing in Livermore. It was quick (done over four days) and pretty painless. The new stone-coated metal tiles were laid over the existing woodshakes.

Sun, Jun 3: We visited the Irvington Farmer's Market for the first time. Nice source of fresh and (some) organic produce.

Sun, Jun 17: The kids had their dance and hip-hop performance at the San Mateo Asian American Expo. We had some fun browsing the stands and bought a nice Chinese scroll painting.

Fri, Jun 22: The grand arrival - picked Grandma and Grandpa up from SFO at 8pm.

Sat, Jun 23: Grandma and Grandpa joined us for their first Hesed fellowship meeting, and their first visit to Bridges Community Church the following morning.

Sun, Jun 24: Hike at Castle Rock State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains, followed by apricot picking at Melissa's home.

Thurs, Jun 28: We took the day off to visit the San Francisco Botanic Gardens and Golden Gate Park. Nice lunch at Indian Masala.

Sat, Jun 30: Day trip with church friends to Point Lobos and Carmel - we enjoyed China Cove Beach, and even cooked lunch on a portable stove.

Sun, Jul 1: We went to Melissa's home again to pick plums.

Tue, Jul 3: We took the day off again. This time, we visited the Legion of Honor Museum and the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. Had brunch at Oakland's Chinatown.

Wed, Jul 4: Independence Day. We joined Julius for a BBQ dinner at his home.

Sat, Jul 7: We attended a lovely Family Concert at Monterey. It was held at the Golden State Theater in conjunction with the annual Carmel Bach Festival.

Sat, Jul 21: Hesed fellowship hike up Mount Tamalpais and a visit to Stinson Beach.

Sun, Jul 22: The kids had a hip hop performance at DeAnza College for the Taiwanese American Association's annual fun fair.

Wed, Aug 1: Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, Cannery Row, and took a lovely walk through some of San Francisco's neighborhoods - up Lombard (the crooked street), Polk, Russian Hill and North Beach (Italian quarter).

Tue, Aug 7: Day off from work to visit the Museum of Modern Art, Yerba Buena Center, and Asian Civilizations Museum.

August 24th: We celebrated Grandma's birthday with a round of presents and tasty cake, yum yum.

Aug 25th: We went to Redwood City for the Singapore National Day Satay Fest.

Sun, Aug 26: Camping for three days/two nights at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Lots of hiking, cooking and fun.

Sun, Sept 1: We attended a company-sponsored picnic at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, complete with free rides and BBQ lunch.

Sat, Sept 15: Grandma and Grandpa are dropped off at SFO after a last-minute shopping flurry, including treats for the kids at In 'N Out Burger and Jamba Juice, and a memorable three months with us.

Plans for next visit? Yosemite in the fall/spring, of course. And Stanford, Tahoe, and Angel Island/ Tiburon.
