Settling into Autumn

Well, things seem to have stabilized after the last frenzied couple of months. Lee is back from Singapore. My trip to Cambridge, UK and Leuven, Belgium is behind me. The kids have settled into their school routine, and with the passing of a couple of relaxing, rejuvenating weekends, we can now look forward to the upcoming holiday season and its round of gatherings and feasting with friends.

In the last three weeks, the weather has turned rather autumnal. Gloomy, overcast days of driving rain and wet leaves on the ground. And some glorious days of golden sunshine bouncing off shivering leaves of red, yellow and brown, against a brooding backdrop of grey clouds gathering over darkening hills.

It was one of those spectacular late autumn afternoons yesterday as we drove home from work. The sun was just low enough to light the treetops but not the ground and the distant hills. Very soon, it will be dark by six, and we'll turn on our christmas lights to cheer us up when we get home.
